In the bid to stay modern and also keep to the tenets of the religion; modest fashion dressing has become an essential part of the conscious Muslim and Muslimah.
There also exists some Muslims who long to join the stylish modest dressing train but are frightened on how to go about it.
So here goes a list of helpful tips to aid your Modest dressing journey. Sit back and add these tips to your dressing room sticky note
>>> Be confident: Confidence is by all means the first thing you need to have on before your clothe; because even if you wore the most elegant outfit and you are not confident in it then you’ve lost it all at starting point. Be confident in being a Modest fashion dresser, be confident in your loose-fitting dresses, in your hijabs and jalamias, be confident in all that you have chosen to wear and all that you have decided to become.
>>> Do a dress rehearsal: Plan, evaluate and try on your outfit before the set time. This allows you to know if the outfit is transparent, too fitted, needs hemming, too large or just not ideal for the occasion it also helps you know if you’ll be comfortable in it. Dress rehearsals also give you an opportunity to see what your wardrobe needs to avoid a fashion malfunction, helps you know what clothes needs to replaced and makes you ready faster. Do make sure your dress rehearsals encompass every item needed for the occasion so you don’t defeat the purpose of preparing by looking for a perfect shoe or bag at the dine minute
>>>Watch your proportions: Proportions are very important in styling as they determine the overall fit and feel of your outfit. It simply means balancing out more voluminous items with slimmer fitting items. Modesty involves wearing less clingy and form fitting outfits but that doesn’t mean you have to appear like you’re being thrown in a sack. It’s important you do a proper mix match of what goes well on what when you dress. Learn not to over or under proportion your modest look.
>>>Accessorize properly: Three rules to guide your accessorizing are; relevance, modern and modest. These rules give your look an instant upgrade so you don’t look like a scarecrow because you want to be modest and lose your Deen because you want to wear what’s trending. Make sure you’re very familiar with just how much accessories you need while considering your outfit, skin color, occasion, time etc. You should also know how much is too much at all times.
>>>Implement a relevant trend to your overall look: You can never wrong when you try to keep up with trend so long as you do it right. It makes your appearance classy and vibrant and eliminates any form of tardiness, don’t forget people only associate themselves with those who dress and look good because it’s your appearance people get to see first before they give you an opportunity to talk. So, make sure you don’t go out looking like you traveled through time in the 12th century and found yourself in the 21st, oops.
>>> Practice Great Postures: Now don’t be one of those people who wear the best of dresses, accessorize properly, take time to do a dress rehearsal, keep up with trend and then ruin it all with an awful posture. Not only is a good posture healthy, it also makes the outfit sit well on you. A good posture is very flattering to your frame, makes for a more confident appearance and enhances your general outlook.
>>> Watch out for Color Matching: Tabarujj (Flashy) is frowned at in Islam. So be careful how you tone and match your colors. It’s okay if you feel a particular clothe is what is ideal for an outfit and you’re so eager to be in it for the occasion, what’s not okay is matching it all with so many other colorful things and then looking like you dripped in some rainbow. (That was a joke right). But please keep in mind that wearing minimal colors is also a way to stay modest.
>>> Ensure you do not reveal what’s meant to be hidden: Modesty should be known for what it is with you. Don’t be that modest dresser who has lost the meaning of what it stands for and don’t make a mockery of it just because you want to create your own revolution. Learn to stick by it and do needed dress rehearsals so you don’t spend the whole day pulling this part of your dress down or that part of your blouse or shirt up because you now feel not very good about your dressing
>>>Stick to a Dress Code: It’s important that you let people know who you are, what you stand for and how you appear so you are not termed as deceptive person. This means, if you always love to wear Khimars and nothing more, let people know you by that. People often get very confused and lose trust in someone who appears in a certain kind of outfit at some times and in another at other times. Stay true to who you are and how you want people to perceive you.
>>>Purify your intentions: “Verily, all actions are but by intentions” Before you set out daily make sure your intention to dress is fixed between you and Allah for, he knows what the heart hides and what it shares. It’s important your intention is adequately checked and rechecked before you set out that way you will feel very alright about yourself and what you wear
