The long-awaited month of Ramadan is almost bidding us goodbye. While most people will be making the most of the month by engaging in Quran recitation, praying Taraweeh, giving charity, listening to Tafseers etc, it’s not unusual to notice people forgetting to make Dua and ask Allah of all that they need.

It’s very important to keep a to-do list because all your thoughts and actions will be geared towards achieving all that you have itemized. Just like to- do list, a Ramadan Dua list could seem unimportant until you begin to realize how you missed out on asking Allah for certain things while you were in the best state.

“Your Lord is kind and Most generous, and is too kind to let His slave, if he raises his hands to Him, bring them back empty” (Ibn Majah).

While trying to make a Ramadan Dua list, we need to know that Allah is As-Sami (The All-Hearing) as knowing this will aid one to be convinced that none of our Dua’s will go unanswered because he listens without fail.

No one makes A Dua without Allah giving him what he asks for, or keeping away from him a similar amount of evil, provided he does not ask for something sinful or for breaking family ties “(Tirmidhi).

While keeping a Ramadan Dua list is good is highly recommended, it is also important that one keeps in mind the etiquette’s that surrounds asking Allah. Here goes an in-exhaustive list of things to keep in mind when drafting a Ramadan Dua list or when supplicating or asking generally

1. Start out by seeking forgiveness for all your sins; hidden, small, mighty, the ones you remember, the ones you don’t etc.

2. Ask for Allah’s blessings on the Prophet (SAW) in the beginning and end of your supplications

 3. Call Allah using his most beautiful names

4. It is in Sunnah to repeat your Dua 3 times

5. Ask Allah in moderate voices; not too low nor too loud

6. Make your Dua wholeheartedly and with utmost humility for Allah doesn’t listen to a distracted heart

7.Do not be hasty in asking for what you want for only Allah knows the best times to have the things we seek

8. Repent from all your sins sincerely and constantly as that puts you in a pure state to have your prayers answered

9.  Keep in mind all the times when Dua is being accepted like; during sujood, last 3rd of the night, when it’s raining, between Adhan and Iqamah, Laylatul Qadr, before breaking a fast etc

10. Ask with Tawakkul and certainty that Allah will accept it no matter the number of times you have asked.

How To Make Your Ramadan Dua List

1. Keep a paper where you write all you want as it crosses your mind; it keeps you energized and excited and ensures you don’t miss anything out

2. Insert the names of people you are praying for so you don’t miss them out

3. Count the number of days left in Ramadan

4.Divide your Dua’s based on the number of days left, could be in 4 parts, 3 parts etc

5. Take certain Dua’s on certain days with utmost certainty repeatedly

1. O Allah! Forgive me my sins, help me to stay away from things that could earn your wrath and make my heart firm on your Deen

2. O Allah! Grant my Parents with your goodness and be merciful to them as they were to me

3.O Allah! Grant me the best of Spouses, the best of offspring’s from among your beloved or make my spouse and offspring a blessing to me and let us aid ourselves in attaining Jannah

4.O Allah! I pray for your blessings over the Prophet (SAW), scholars in Islam and all those who propagate Islam seeking to earn your reward

5.  O Allah! I pray for your blessings over the Muslims who are being prosecuted for their religion, help them to stay strong and grant them relief after the hardships that they face

6.O Allah! Grant the Muslims who have died in the course of the Deen Martyrdom

7. O Allah! I pray for your protection over my family, my friends and loved ones, please unite us on the Day of recompense

8. O Allah! Please grant my late mother the highest place in Jannah, ease for her her questioning and illuminate her grave

9. O Allah! Make me among those whom you will grant your shades when there are no shades except yours

10. “Allaahumma Innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibb al-‘afwa fa’affu ‘anni ( O Allah! You are forgiving and you love to forgive so forgive me

So, you see; keeping a Ramadan Dua list isn’t as hard or as tough as you thought.
